Peanuts Gang

Peanut butter - you can find it in nearly every pantry in every household. And when you open the peanut butter jar, your dog appears, in lightening speed! Most dogs love peanut butter, so we made peanut treats!

But are they healthy? Yes!

If you are into keto or if you are vegan, you know that peanuts are a great source of protein. A dog's diet should be made up of 70-80% of protein. It is needed to live an energetic, lively and active dog life. There is more to peanuts than just taste and protein...

They are rich in healthy fats known as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Both of these fats are known to promote a healthy heart and decrease the chance of cardiovascular disease in dogs. Do note that peanuts contain high levels of fat, healthy fats, but a lot of them. So, if your dog has a few too many kilos or is watching their weight, be mindful not to feed too many of these treats.

When we say biotin, most of us will think of hair and nails. And thats, the same for dogs. Biotin (also known as Vitamin B7) promotes healthy skin and coat in dogs. It can make a dogs coat more shiny and bright. Peanuts contain twice as much biotin as bananas and even more than eggs.

Additional Superpower:  Let's talk cholesterol. Also dogs can have too high cholesterol levels. Peanuts contain Vitamin B3 (niacinamide acid or niacin) which helps reduce the "bad" cholesterol and increase the "good" cholesterol to even out the levels again.

Fun Fact: Peanuts might taste like nuts, have the word "nuts" in their name but really, they are not nuts. They also legumes that grow underground. So they do not belong to the family of nuts like almonds, cashews and so on.

Due to the high levels of healthy fats, eating too many peanuts can cause digestive upset and even pancreatitis if consumed on a regular basis or in large quantities.
