“Bratapfel” is a traditional German Christmas dish. It translates to baked apple and is a simple dessert made from oven-baked apples filled with almond paste, also known as Marzipane. To honor our heritage, we decided to turn this famous dessert into a dog training treat this Christmas.
Apples are a great addition to our dog’s diet. They contain vitamin A and vitamins C as well as dietary fiber. Apples provide antioxidants and help improve the gut health. Some say apples can also help relieve allergies due to the quercetin contained in it which is a flavonoid that helps fight off the harmful effects of allergies. It is a natural antihistamine helping reduce irritation, redness and inflammation.
Secret weapon: Apples have anti-aging powers as vitamin C helps reduce damaged cells and vitamin A supports vision, skin and coat function.
Almonds, like most nuts, are rich in vitamins and nutrients. These include manganese, vitamin E, magnesium, vitamin B2 and phosphorous. Furthermore, almonds are densely packed with monounsaturated fats (that’s the good heathy fats) known to help reduce the risk of heart disease. Almonds can also serve as laxatives and lubricants for the intestines which makes them a natural cure for constipation.
Should your dog suffer from pancreatitis, please do not feed these treats as almonds are not good for dogs with this condition.
